Summary:A new Versatile additive for the controlled radical polymerization of numerous vinyl monomers under mild conditions is presented. The addition of 1,1-diphenylethene (DPE) to a conventional radical polymerization system consisting of initiator and monomer results in a controlled behavior of the polymerization. Block copolymers are obtained by simply heating the resulting polymers in the presence of a second monomer.
