Merilactone, an unusual C-19 metabolite from the root extract of Chiococca alba

A C-19 metabolite has been isolated from the methanol extract of the roots of Chiococca alba and characterized as a new nor-seco-pimarane, to which we have given the trivial name merilactone (1). The structure and relative stereochemistry of 1 was established by spectral data interpretation.
