Summary: | The present invention relates generally to stereo imaging, and more particularly, to techniques for correcting an epipolar axis for skew and offset in order to approximate a horizontal axis in disparity calculations.
Cameras () produce first and second images () of an object () from different viewpoints. An image partitioning module () partitions the images () into a plurality of vertically striped regions (), such that each region () of the first image () corresponds to a region () of the second image (). A region alignment module () vertically shifts a region () of the first image () in a direction calculated to vertically align a portion () of the region () with a substantially matching portion () of the corresponding region (). A disparity calculation module () calculates at least one disparity value between at least a portion () of the vertically shifted region () and at least a portion () of the corresponding region (). |
