Summary:A sequence of modulation symbols defines at least two bit groups, including a first group of bits located in at least one first bit position within the symbols and a second group of bits located in at least one second bit position within the symbols and having a higher probability of transmission error than the bits of the first group. The coded information bits of a block are arranged to form a first sequence of bits in which each information bit is assigned to a respective one of the bit groups. The bits of the first sequence are then interleaved to form a second sequence of bits while preserving the assignment of the information bits to the bit groups. The bits of the second sequence are finally mapped onto the sequence of modulation symbols.
