There have been significant developments in productions structure of businesses, production cost and
managerial systems in parallel to technological developments of recent years. Businesses have been experiencing
the effects of automatisation and competition, which gets harder day by day. Automatisation, while increasing
productivity on the one hand, it causes changes in production cost structure on the other hand. While relative
ratio of overhead costs increases, direct labour cost decreases. Overhead costs, of which reflection to product
cost and expenditure element cost centres already poses problems, gets more significant. Increasing global
competition and economic crisis compelled businesses to decrease production costs and be customer centered
without conceding quality.
Accurate and correct cost calculation has a close connection with the cost system which is used in the
business. Changing production settings, increasing technological applications and economic conditions make
traditional costing inadequate to solve the problems which are experienced. Strategical decision taking and
significance of more reliable data dealing with product costs require alterations in the costing system.
This paper scrutinizes how changing production settings affect the costing structure of industrial
businesses. |
