Summary:Modeling of different types of settling slurry flow is discussed in this chapter. Semi-empirical models predicting a pipe characteristic curve, relating the frictional pressure drop with the velocity of slurry flow at certain solids concentration, are surveyed. The models cover flows of both narrow-graded and broad-graded slurries, and they are simple enough to be easily applicable for engineering purposes. Emerging more sophisticated CFD approaches to modeling of settling slurry flows are surveyed as well. Experimental results are employed to demonstrate predictive capabilities of the presented engineering models and to examine conditions of special settling slurry flows as bimodal flow or flow above a stationary deposit.
