Summary:As court counsellor and professor for surgery and ophtalmology at the University of Halle-Wittenberg, Karl August Weinhold (1782–1829) by that time was a well-known surgeon. Therapy of ulcerations on legs or other parts of the body he took in two steps. Firstly, he initiated granulation by the use of mercury products into the skin layer. Then the skin surrounding the ulcer was torn together by special plasters. Weinhold had to face hard criticism by his colleagues, which favoured compression therapy after Theden and Baynton. The small book and other publications of Weinhold give insights into social problems of patients at that time.
