Summary:The clinical and surgical features of eight patients with extensive calcifications of the left atrial wall and mitral valvular disease, has been reported. Seven patients underwent to prosthetic replacement of the mitral valve and one to prosthetic replacement of the mitral and aortic valve. Beside the valvular replacement, the authors stress the importance of the surgical removal of the atrium wall calcifications, in order to avoid the postoperative haemorrhagic and embolic complications.
