Summary: | The peanut gene functions in Drosophila melanogaster oogenesis were studied. It was demonstrated that the suppression of peanut expression by RNA interference in the ovary follicular cells results in the violation of oocyte polarization, anomalous cytokinesis in the chorion cells, and violation of the chromatin condensation in follicular cells. No oogenesis violations were observed in females with decreased peanut gene expression or an absence of the Pnut protein in the ovary generative cells. However, embryos produced by such females had a decreased survival rate caused by two death peaks. |
