Summary: | At the issues conference, the county will try to convince a DEC administrative law judge that the Cell 6 project would raise no environmental issues that would warrant an adjudicatory hearing. An adjudicatory hearing basically a civil trial would drag the expansion process on for months. It would guarantee a landfill shutdown, perhaps as soon as October. The Cell 6 project and any future expansions are facing stiff opposition from an environmental group, Special Protection for the Environment of the County of Sullivan. SPECS has hired its own attorney and is seeking party status in the discussions over the landfill. |
