Summary:Posner and her husband ran for cover, but unbeknownst to them, the double-trunked tree had split in half, and they were running into trouble. Just then, a Bellmore EMT who happened to stop by to help pushed [Linda Posner] out of the way and grabbed ahold of Herb's shirt to stop him from running. The tree fell in an arc over Herb, Linda Posner said, and all three wound up trapped between the tree and live wires. That's when an officer from Nassau's First Precinct helped guide them out of danger, she said. The Posners, who are in their 60s, and the three people in the car went to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, Linda Posner said, but no one was seriously hurt. Nassau police said they had no reports of injuries in the incident. Herb Posner was covered in bruises, his wife said, and was in a lot of pain but feeling fortunate. In Southold, bay constables rescued a Greenport man, Dennis O'Connell, 69, when his 40-foot sailboat sank in Orient Harbor, Southold Town Police said. O'Connell was attempting to seek safety for his boat during the storm when it sank just before 1 p.m., police said. He was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport for treatment, police said.
