Summary: | So, how could this happen? It was a cut and dried case of cut and run. The newspapers never even used the words "allegedly escaped" or "accused escapist" in describing [Hugo Selenski] and his disappearing act. After all, Hugo was in jail, and then he wasn't. The District Attorney's Office forgot to file a form to consolidate the escape charges with Hugo's murder charges, so the legal maneuvering that legally delayed the murder trial until this week did not apply to the escape charges, which lingered for more than a year and were dismissed. The day he was arrested, Hugo allegedly told a cop that the authorities would find five bodies on his property. They did. But the apparent confession was disavowed and disallowed because the cop didn't read Hugo his rights. |
