"Although the actual and potential negative effects on the environment have not yet been fully measured, this ecological disaster demands our urgent attention," de Cotret said in the statement released following a Paris meeting of OECD environment ministers. Lt.-Gen. David Huddleston, Canada's deputy chief of defence staff, denied suggestions from the House of Commons External Affairs and Defence committees that Canada has been too slow to act.
