Summary: | Ontario Education Minister Dave Johnson will release the new high school curriculum for grades 9 and 10 today at a suburban high school in Brampton. A ministerial background document describing some of the changes to the curriculum has been obtained by Southam News and the National Post. In the elementary curriculum, which is already in place, the Conservatives toughened requirements, increasing the emphasis on language skills, mathematics and science. That emphasis continues in the new high school curriculum. Under the new curriculum, cell division, the gene and DNA are all part of the Grade 9 science course, where the properties of electricity are also studied. (It had been studied in Grade 10.) |
