Summary: | The county's refusal to shell out that amount to the environmental group SPECS (Special Protection of the Environment for the County of Sullivan) scuttled a tentative agreement that would clear the way for a new 3.4-acre cell. The county has been negotiating with SPECS, the Village of Monticello/Town of Thompson and the Sullivan County Supervisors Association. The sides reached a settlement on all points except SPECS' $20,000 demand, County Attorney Sam Yasgur said. SPECS Attorney Gary Abraham said SPECS wants the cash to keep the public in the loop over the landfill. "Less than half" the money would be used to pay legal fees, he said. |
