Summary:Following that experience, in which Crowe won an Academy Award for best original screenplay, friends and fans kept asking Crowe when he was going to write about his father. The inspiration hit while on tour with his wife, Nancy Wilson, and her band, Heart. Rolling through the Kentucky landscape, memories of trips home with dad started coming back to Crowe, and he hopped off the tour bus, rented a car and started driving around the Bluegrass State. While [Drew Baylor] is the semi-autobiographical Crowe character, it's [Kirsten Dunst]'s character, Claire, who frequently says what's in Crowe's heart. "He really wanted me to work with Tom Cruise," Crowe said, referring to the Louisville native. "He loves Tom Cruise, and ... when I was working on Singles (1992) he said, 'You should work with Tom Cruise.' But I didn't know Tom had roots in Kentucky."
