Summary: | The candidates, in alphabetical order, are: Norton Bonaparte Jr. of Plainfield, N.J.; Stephen Rasmussen of Ottumwa, Iowa; Larry Stevens of Edmond, Okla.; Sean Stegall of Elgin, Ill.; and Bill Watkins, Columbia's current assistant city manager. The Columbia City Council originally chose seven finalists from a list of 12 names, but two withdrew. Private consultant Karl Nellenberger helped develop the job criteria, publicize the position and screen the initial pool of 73 applicants. The consultant conducted preliminary screening of the five finalists, including a search of newspaper archives and the Internet, and financial and criminal background checks, [Darwin Hindman] said. More extensive checks will be used on the chosen candidate. |
