Summary: | Sears Impressions Co. in Saitama, north of Tokyo, which runs the accessory shop "Jewelry Kingdom" that mainly sells brand-name rings and necklaces via mobile phones, posts more than 10 million yen in sales a month. Supporting this growth is the popularization of third-generation mobile phones that enable high-speed data communication as well as the flat fees for unlimited Internet over mobile phones. An Amazon Japan official said, "Monthly sales through mobile phones in October this year was four-times larger than the year before. Sales especially began to grow rapidly in the second half of 2004." He said people who place orders via personal computers are mostly in their late 20s-40s, but 60 percent of purchasers via mobile phones are in their teens and 20s. |
