Summary: | Jan. 28--Thousands of Colorado real estate brokers have flooded state regulators with fingerprints in recent weeks as agents scrambled to meet a new licensing renewal requirement for criminal background checks or face having their livelihood curtailed. A state law that took effect in July required real estate brokers to submit fingerprints for criminal background checks in order to renew their state licenses. Failure to submit the prints would render their license inactive, a status that bars brokers from listing, showing or selling property. New brokers have been required for years to submit prints for background checks that the state commission reviews, rejecting those convicted of violent or financial crimes, [Debbie Campagnola] said. |
