Summary: | Herb on Jim: At a post-primary Democratic "unity rally" organized by Russ Feingold in Green Bay on Sept. 16, fellow senator Herb Kohl paid Gov. Jim Doyle an unusual compliment. Accusing Republicans of getting elected by offering "slogans" instead of real plans or tough choices, Kohl said Doyle was just the opposite. The War at Home: Feingold's Wisconsin listening sessions tend to attract people who support the senator's positions. But at sessions in Kewaunee and Door counties Sept. 16, a retiree from Brillion named Tom German used his speaking turn to hoist a sign declaring that Democrats "can't be trusted with this country's defense." Feingold told German: "You know, I'm not a big fan of the enemy either, any more than you are. I happen to despise the enemy." Feingold, a longtime opponent of the Iraq war, said, "I believe in aggressive military and other action. . . . I just think we ought to get it right." |
