Summary: | Youthful Duke, the West Region's third seed after five consecutive years as a No.1 seed, showed upstart Colorado State on Thursday that it still has enough talent and savvy to surge past the NCAA Tournament first round. Duke (25-6) will play 11th-seeded Central Michigan (25-6) on Saturday in the second round. Central Michigan ran off to a 26- point lead early in the second half then had to withstand sixth- seeded Creighton's rally to win 79-73 on Thursday in the first round. Creighton (29-5) also got as close as two points in the final two minutes but faltered. Trying to go to the usually reliable [Matt Nelson] (team-record 65.4percent from the field this season) also had its problems. Duke's big men, Williams and spunky 6-11 senior Casey Sanders, squashed at least three of Nelson's first-half shots off power moves to the bucket. |
