Summary:WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Molten Metal Technology, Inc., announced that the Honorable Maurice F. Strong has joined its Board of Directors. Strong was Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Secretary-General of the 1992 U.N. Conference on Environment and Development, the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Strong is a renowned environmental leader with extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. In 1966, after 18 years in industry, he resigned as president of Power Corporation of Canada to become head of Canada's External Aid Office, later called the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). Strong served as president of CIDA until 1970, administering international development assistance programs. From 1970 to 1972, he served as Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Human Environment, and subsequently as the first Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) until 1975. Following UNEP, Strong was appointed chairman and chief executive officer of Petro-Canada, Canada's $5 billion annual sales national oil company. (excerpt)
