Summary:Kampala - A US court has heard that a Bank of Uganda official, Richard Santo Apire, a witness in the Nasser Sebaggala case has received threatening calls from the accused's wife and lawyer. Assistant US attorney, Theodre Chuang, told court Friday that they had learnt from the US embassy in Kampala that one of the prosecution witnesses had received threatening calls. "We have received information from the US embassy in Uganda that one of the witnesses had received threatening calls from the defendant's wife and lawyer," Chuang said without naming the witness. The judge, [Regnald] Lindsay, also accepted that Sebaggala be availed a person to assist him with translations into Luganda. A Ugandan, Mathias Nsubuga, flown in by defence from Kampala this week was accepted and sworn as Sebaggala's translator. But Paul Kelly told court that during trial, Sebaggala will if found necessary, testify in English. Nsubuga will only assist him to understand the question put to him by the jury or prosecution.
