Summary: | Kidu, who moved to Port Moresby in 1971 after marrying PNG lawyer Biru Kidu, was Community Development Minister in the government of Prime Minister Michael Somare and the sole female MP in the House. Kidu said she hoped the country's 20 regional seats would become reserved seats for women by the 2012 election, to ensure female representation in parliament. In March this year, Kidu was conferred with the US Secretary of State's International Woman of Courage Award for her promotion of human rights in PNG. |
