Summary:M2 PRESSWIRE-November 15, 2005-UK Government: 2005 Schools' Aerospace Challenge - St Paul's School, London, scoop national RAF trophy (C)1994-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD 3. The aerospace industry as well as the RAF is especially keen to encourage innovative and original thought in new areas of operation, especially among youth. The UK has been responsible for much of the original thinking that has resulted in substantial advances in aviation. In 1928 a 21 year old RAF cadet with no formal engineering education wrote an essay setting out the principle of what we now call the jet engine. That cadet was Sir Frank Whittle and after patenting his design in 1930, the first jet engine ran in 1937. Today we can travel all over the world, all because of one young man's vision.
