Summary:The California Wellness Foundation, funded last month by a $300 million contribution from Health Net, the health maintenance organization, has moved quickly to establish a statewide seven-member board, approve a mission statement, and issue its first grant. At their initial meeting, the foundation's board approved a $100,000 grant to help underwrite a public/private partnership to provide school-linked health and social services to children in California's primary and secondary schools. According to Howard A. Kahn, the new grant-making entity's president, The California Wellness Foundation is teaming with seven other foundations to contribute jointly at least $1.75 million per year for three years to assist in implementing the statewide program.
