Summary: | Kopp discusses his experience of meeting Phillip T. Young at the first AMIS meeting that he attended in 1991 at the Moravian College in Bethlehem PA. He states that Young was then president of AMIS and was greeting arriving members. He adds that Young warmly welcomed him though he probably knew that he would shortly be delivering a paper on the proto-bassoons described in Mersenne's treatises. A former bassoonist himself, Young had been a mentor to Jesse Read, a pioneering player on early bassoons. It was Jesse, his recent teacher, who suggested that he submits a paper proposal for an AMIS meeting. |
