Summary: | Burgess and Kopp discusses the online auction of over 270 musical instruments by the Skinner Auction House in Marlborough, MA in December 2021. A large percentage of which came from the collection of former AMIS members Richard and Jeannine Abel. With its strong emphasis on woodwinds and particularly double-reed instruments, the Abel collection could without any exaggeration be described as the most important privately owned assemblage of oboes and bassoons in the US. The sale attracted buyers from around the world, and for the double-reed community provided a rare opportunity to see an important segment of their instruments' history laid out in full view. |
