Summary:Q&A Writer-director Lee Isaac Chung's drama Minari, about a Korean American family chasing the American dream, was inspired by his own childhood in Arkansas By Inkoo Kang For Minari, writer-director Lee Isaac Chung mined his unusual Korean American childhood in rural Arkansas, where his father took his family for a chance at a homesteading dream. The result is an intimate yet visually sweeping tale about an immigrant couple, Jacob and Monica (played by Steven Yeun and Yeri Han), with two young children (newcomers Noel Cho and Alan Kim), whose dreams will make or break their fragile marriage. What Jacob is setting out to do, to make the land submit to him, is diametrically opposed to the way [his mother-in-law] Soonja [played by Youn Yuh-jung] is almost listening more to the land.
