Summary:After spending contracted in 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, we forecast a return to growth for France's consumer electronics market in 2021. There will be broad support from the rebound in consumer sentiment as a vaccine is deployed, as well as euro appreciation that lifts unit prices. The core scenario is however still subject to elevated uncertainty because of the potential for disruption by a second wave of infections in winter 2020-2021, or for the consumer recovery to be dampened by delays or deployment issues with a vaccine. Looking to 2021 and beyond, there are unknowns about the shape of the recovery because of the unique circumstances of the pandemic compared with a normal recession. Areas of uncertainty include long-lasting impacts on consumption and investment behaviours, as well as societal organisation, employment levels, incomes and consumer sentiment.
