Summary:By 1996, there were questions about whether Category 5 was going to have sufficient bandwidth to economically support future LAN applications. A debate ensued regarding which was better: Category 5 or a new and higher performance level. At a pivotal International Standards Organization meeting in September of 1997, it was decided to concurrently develop a 200MHz UTP Category 6 specification and a 600MHz SSTP Category 7 specification.
