Summary: | Whole Foods is an example of how some supermarkets are doing it right in the midst of a turning point for the grocery industry. When supermarkets were the only retailers selling food, they did not need to look for a reason to bring shoppers into their stores. But there is a new kind of food fight occurring in the aisles of the US' supermarkets these days. Instead of fighting to keep up with everyday low prices, supermarkets like Wegmans, HEB and Trader Joe's are offering something of their own -- unique private labels that rival the name brands. Other retailers are branching out to fill shelf space with nontraditional products that are often sparse at grocery stores. |
