Summary: | Other firms to lay off staff included Florida-based Holland & Knight, which cut 70 lawyers - 7% of its 1,030lawyer workforce - as well as 173 support staff across 21 offices. [Dechert] laid off 19 lawyers across all its offices in the US, Bryan Cave cut 58 lawyers and 76 staff, while Faegre & Benson laid off 29 associates and Philadelphia-based practice Cozen O'Connor laid off 61 support staff. Consultant Peter Zeughauser said the cutbacks are likely to continue. "Attrition rates were high because of a talent shortage. Everything hit a wall in the last quarter of 2008," he said. "Now firms are retrenching. Firms are full. They gorged on associates and now are told they need a quintuple bypass. Nobody saw this coming." |
