Summary:Toxicogenomics can also be employed to facilitate investigative toxicity studies targeted at unexpected toxicities that occur in vivo. The currently employed strategies of animal-based toxicity testing rely upon blood chemistry and histopathology. These approaches often provide little insight into a compound's molecular mechanism of toxicity. This lack of information complicates the interpretation of toxicity data, especially when there is conflicting toxicity in different animal species.
