Summary: | This study examines the risk/return performance of a number of simple portfolio strategies designed to potentially improve investor wealth accumulations over time. The authors find that a "follow-the-winner" strategy, applied quarterly, is an effective approach that results in higher overall return and wealth accumulation, with only a moderate risk increase, when compared with a buy-and-hold strategy. Extending this strategy to an annual time frame reduces effectiveness to the point where it is only marginally better than a simple buy-and-hold strategy on a risk-adjusted basis. |
