Summary: | When a major North American CD maker wanted to trim production costs it turned to automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) from Transbotics Corp. This 10-AGV system integrates with packaging robots and an automatic storage and retrieval system. The result: one-third the labor cost and no loss of jobs. Most modern AGVs do away with the wires and are instead guided along computer-generated pathways by gyros, magnetic spots and tape, or lasers. Of these, lasers have become the preferred navigation method. |
