Summary:Lake talks about how the development of weapons, sensors and systems has pushed on at a more rapid pace, as today's top-of-the-range fighters are not, in most cases, significantly faster or more agile than their predecessors; to compensate for this, and in an effort to gain advantage over the enemy. Air-to-air missiles are the primary armament for fighter aircraft today, and the gun has largely fallen out of favour, though it remains useful in some circumstances, when rules of engagement dictate, or when other weapons are electronically jammed or blinded by laser.
