Summary:The digital, culture, media and sports committee also delivered a scathing verdict on Free Basics, Facebook’s scheme for offering free internet access in developing countries, which has been accused of facilitating propaganda andstoking violencein Myanmar. Leave.EU, co-founded by insurance entrepreneur Arron Banks, is the subject of ongoing inquiries by the Electoral Commission, the Information Commissioners’ Office and the National Crime Agency. The committee suggested there could be a levy on tech companies to pay for the expanded work of the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK data protection regulator, in the same way the banking industry pays a levy to fund the work of the Financial Conduct Authority.
