Summary:The domestic demand for software in Korea has increased. However, the nation's software companies have received little benefit from this boom. The main reason for this seems to be the illegal reproduction and unlawful distribution of software. As illegally duplicated software dominates the market, local developers as well as investors are increasingly hesitant to enter the field, thus undermining the foundation for domestic production. As illegal software enters the domestic market, local software houses are losing the base on which their product marketability is traditionally first tested. The reduced price of CD recorders could be one reason for the increase in illegal software. Statistics proving Korea's software piracy has long been a problem between the US and Korea and may break into a major trade problem it is not dealt with.
