Summary: | He huffed and he puffed but John P. Sayler couldn't blow down opposition last week to his company's proposal to build a wind generator west of Carlisle. Sayler, who is president of J. P. Sayler & Associates Consultants Inc., was trying to convince the Polk County Board of Adjustment for the third time in the last four months to grant his clients a special use permit for a "wind-energy conversion system," or WECS. After hearing 90 minutes of testimony from Sayler, county zoning officials and officers of an unrelated wind-energy company from Oklahoma, the Board of Adjustment cut Sayler's remarks short and voted 3-2 to deny the request. Sayler was reading at length from various technical journals when a board of adjustment member interrupted his presentation to urge an immediate vote. Sayler expressed frustration with the board's action and said his company will consider legal action to overturn the decision. (excerpt) |
