Summary:According to Communications magazine's annual survey of mobile communications users, the top complaint voiced by respondents was the crowding of the frequency spectrum. Of those participating in the survey, 63% were from the public safety industry. More than half of the respondents were communications managers or communications engineers. The factor respondents listed as the most important in their purchasing decisions of mobile communications was service. Some 99% said they service mobile and portable voice radios, and 83% said they do this work in-house. When asked if their companies would invest in certain communications technologies during 1993, some 69% said they would increase their investment in mobile and portable communications. The respondents rated the FCC, trade associations and the trade press to be most responsive to users' needs. Following the crowding of the frequency spectrum, the 2nd biggest concern for the mobile communications industry was rising equipment costs and falling budgets.
