Summary:March 15 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Andrew Jackson, a War of 1812 hero and the seventh president of the United States. When the War of 1812 broke out, restive Red Stick Creek Indians in northern Alabama and Georgia seized the opportunity to attack white settlements. In concert with industrial expansion in the Northeast, agricultural expansion in the Old Northwest, and increasing access to a global economy, the socalled Cotton Kingdom proved a pillar of U.S. economic growth.
