Summary: | Whenever the author talks with bankers, the topic of the ever-increasing burdens and costs of regulation always comes up. So it was refreshing when the federal bank regulatory agencies recently announced the first in a series of steps that could truly reduce the regulatory burden on community banks. The recent action arose out of an initiative instituted by the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council, or FFIEC, in December 2014. The initiative was to identify possible ways to reduce burdens imposed on community banks associated with preparing and filing Consolidated Reports of Condition and Income, or Call Reports. In a welcome first step, the federal bank regulatory agencies in September published for comment proposed changes to the Call Report. |
