Summary:As in many industrialized countries, the Quebec health and social services system is faced with the challenge of finding ways to meet growing demand for services while controlling spiraling costs. More and more hospital administrators are looking at hospital logistics activities as a source of potential savings as well as a way to more effectively support clinical performance. Over the past decade, different studies have described the logistics activities in health care institutions in the province of Quebec. This article bridges the gap between this past and the present in order to better understand current logistics challenges. The article then proposes potential areas of development for logistics activities in a hospital setting. It concludes with observations on the skills needed by logistics managers in order to facilitate the implementation of these measures.
