Summary: | The Institute of International Strategic Studies identifies 56 types of drones used by 11 countries. Besides the United States and the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Iran, Israel, Italy, India, Russia, China, and Turkey maintain drones. On Feb. 4, 2002, the CIA first used a Predator drone in a targeted attack when an attempt was made to kill Osama bin Laden. In testimony before the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, NAF stated that "upon taking office in January 2009, President Barack Obama almost immediately made drones one of his key national security tools. |
