Summary: | The Skin I Live In: Antonio Banderas, whose sexy roles in Pedro Almodovar's Law of Desire and Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! launched his international career, returns to his original mentor in the role of Robert, an acclaimed plastic surgeon focused on creating an artificial skin after his beloved wife Vera (Elena Anaya) burned to death in an auto accident. HHHH Martha Marcy May Marlene: Elizabeth Olsen steps on to the radar as a seriously accomplished actor in this mesmerising drama, which also marks an assured feature debut for writer-director Sean Durkin. On first encounter, the alliterative tongue-twister title, Martha Marcy May Marlene, begs to be changed. But it turns out to be an eerie fit for a movie in which young women allow their identities to be subsumed or even entirely replaced in their hunger to belong. HHHH The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: Fans of Stieg Larsson's book will no doubt be gratified by director David Fincher's treatment of the text, his tweaks to the ending notwithstanding. Viewers who never caught Dragon fever might wonder what all the fuss is about. HHHH |
