[Larry Nelson] has received widespread recognition for his volunteer efforts. In April he was named a New Brunswick Youth Orchestra Lieutenant-Governor's Award winner and was one of four people in the Order of Moncton's inaugural 2010 class. He also received an honorary doctorate of arts from Universite de Moncton in 2004.
