Summary: | Taking its name from a notorious favela, or slum, in Rio de Janeiro, the film is a sprawling, "Pulp Fiction"-esque tale centered on two childhood friends, Buscape and Lil Ze. The film is also similar to "GoodFellas" in its breadth and scope - we get the feeling early on that there will be an inevitably bloody denouement between the childhood friends - but it's different in that we can't help feeling sympathy for even the most monstrous characters, as their every act seems fueled by neglect; their lives utterly devoid of love. |
