Summary:A cool breeze tempered the heat wave that's baked Metro lately, leaving folks comfortable throughout the sunshine-filled day and reaching for a sweater during the clear, cool night, just right for fireworks that studded the evening sky. More than 50,000 people clicked through the turnstiles at Ontario Place to watch the opening of the Benson and Hedges International Fireworks Competition. Canada, as befitting the nation celebrating its birthday, led off with its spectacular display of pyrotechnics from barges anchored off Look-Out Point. At Harbourfront, mime artists in white face and fluorescent garb sent silly silent messages to the crowds, who mingled and mixed it up with circus folk juggling meat cleavers, ping-pong balls and flaming torches.
