Summary: | Cynthia Goodyer, acting director of the hospital's world-renowned McGill University-Montreal Children's Hospital Research Institute, said having all 46 researchers and their labs under one roof would mean less time wasted walking between labs for collaboration. As the scope of its pediatric services expanded and the demands on its outpatient clinics required a more central location, the renamed Montreal Children's Hospital moved in 1956 to the Tupper St. buildings which had previously housed the Montreal General's Western Division. That adult division moved to the present site of the Montreal General on the slope of Mount Royal. [Gus O'Gorman] said the children's hospital's CAT scan and other modern diagnostic tools have dramatically improved procedures and reduced pain. The advent of ultrasound means that many conditions such as obstructed kidneys can be dealt with in radiology without the scarring, general anesthesia and hospitalization of previous approaches involving surgery. |
